Firms urged to spur VN-US ties

Viet Nam's ambassador to the US, Pham Quang Vinh, has called upon American businesses to strengthen connections with their Vietnamese counterparts and contribute to further growth in bilateral relations.

Meeting with representatives of the US business community in Washington DC on Thursday, Vinh praised their contributions to normalising ties between the two countries.

He informed them of recent developments in Viet Nam-US relations, with two-way trade climbing to US$35 billion in 2014. He also highlighted Vietnamese policies and developments promoting economic growth, especially the nation's efforts to renovate, restructure and stabilise its macro-economy.

The two nations will work closely in 2015 in honour of the 20th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations, the diplomat said.

The president of the US-ASEAN Business Council (US-ABC) Alexander Feldman and vice president of the US Commercial Chamber (USCC) Tami Oberman said the US business community has strong confidence in Viet Nam's economic development prospects.

They said the community was looking forward to positive gains from the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement.

A number of US companies intend to expand their market and establish partnerships with Vietnamese firms, fostering bilateral relations in the process, they added.
