Phan Thiet Airport to have 3,050m runway

The Phan Thiet Airport's construction will commence on December 12, said a leader of the southern city's people's committee on December 1, as reported by business news website ndh.

On November 28, representatives of the national defence, planning and investment and transport ministries and the Binh Thuan Province's People's Committee scrutinised the airport's master plan, designed by the MTV ADCC Ltd Company under the defence ministry.

According to the plan, the airport's runway for landing and take-off will be 3,050m long, instead of 2,400m as the initial design. The airport will have a 5sq.km terminal with a capacity of handling 300 passengers per hour.

The VND1,600-billion (US$75-million) terminal will be built on a BOT basis. So far, the project has acquired 170ha out of the designed area of 543ha. The rest of the land is expected to be cleared by 2015.

The project is scheduled to be completed by 2018.
