Taiwanese group to invest $1b in eco-tourism complex

Happiness Cement Group of Taiwan has unveiled a plan to invest US$1 billion in the construction of a modern eco-tourism and urban area complex in north-eastern Quang Ninh Province.

At a meeting with the provincial People's Committee on Tuesday, the company vowed to expedite all formalities as soon as possible to speed up the issuance of an investment certificate for the project.

The complex will cover a 517-hectare site at Quang Yen Commune in Hoang Tan Island and include a 36-hole golf course, six-star international hotels and luxury accommodations.

The complex will also include a maritime tourism centre consisting of the diverse flora and fauna of Ha Long Bay, an underground park, a cultural and geological exhibition house of Ha Long Bay, cultural and water parks, film and culinary art zones, and shopping malls.

The group has pledged to carry out the project by 2015 and complete the modern eco-urban area complex by June 2021.

Nguyen Van Thanh, vice chairman of the provincial People's Committee, asked concerned agencies to speed up the finalisation of all formalities to ensure the granting of an investment certificate to the group by mid-October.
