Professional investment banking programme to grow financial, investment skills

With the rapid development of the Lao economy and the vast amount of infrastructure and other works being undertaken recently, a more professional approach to financial and investment services is recognised as being necessary.

Accordingly the Lao Securities Exchange in partnership with APM (Lao) Securities Com. Ltd and the Faculty of Economics and Business Management of the National University of Laos has set up its second training programme on Lao Professional Investment Banking.

The programme was officially opened in Vientiane on Friday, October 3 with the training taking place only on weekends from October 4 to November 9.

Most of the participants in the course come from different private and government agencies such as LSX, APMLAO, the Bank of the Lao PDR, ETL, the Banking Institute of Laos, Lao-China Securities Company, French Development Agency, ST Bank and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

The combined aim is to develop knowledge on capital markets and human resources for the Lao securities market.
Chairman and CEO of LSX, Associate Prof. Dethphouvang Moularat strongly believed that the course would be every bit as successful as the previous one.

“I believed that this course will be just as successful as the first one which had more than 60 trainees participating, out of which the number who completed the course and passed the exams was 17,” he said.

Professional broker certificates were also handed out to the successful trainees by LSX, allowing the holders to apply for a brokerage licence with the Lao Securities Commission Office, said Prof. Dethphouvang.

Deputy CEO of APMLAO, Assistant Prof. Suda Peetawan, said that the lecture topics and contents in the 2nd programme-La.PIBI, have been updated to be more interesting and modern.
Highly experienced trainers having specific knowledge on securities accounting and related laws will be invited to take part in the programme, she said.

The topics in the 2nd programme-La.PIBI consist of the mechanisms and structure of money and capital markets, financial information analysis based on financial management, making decisions on investment, financial products and evaluation in capital markets, the role of a broker, securities transactions and others.

The highlight of the training course is when the trainees get the chance to visit the stock exchange of Thailand, FinansiaSyrus Securities Plc, Asset Pro Management Co. Ltd and some listed companies in Bangkok, Thailand on October 30 -31, Prof. Suda added.
