Russia removes cessation to Vietnamese seafood imports
Russia's Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Service (VPSS) announced that they will remove a ban on Vietnamese seafood imports.
The Vietnam’s National Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Quality Assurance Department (NAFIQAD) announced that the VPSS has removed their ban on Vietnamese tra fish, basa fish and frozen shrimp products from Vietnam.
Of the Vietnamese seafood exporters, five operate in tra and basa fish processing: Hung Vuong-Vinh Long Co., Ltd, Hung Vuong JSC, Ben Tre Seafood Import-Export JSC’s Ba Lai Seafood Processing Factory, Hiep Thanh Seafood Processing JSC, and Hung Ca Co., Ltd.
Two other Vietnamese seafood exporters were allowed to resume exports to Russia are operating in frozen shrimp processing, namely Minh Phu Seafood JSC and Minh Phu Seafood Processing Co., Ltd.
NAFIQAD requested that these exporters strictly comply with the food-safety regulations of Vietnam, Russia and the Eurasian Customs Union for all exported goods.
“Local centres managing the quality of ago-forestry and fishery products will be responsible for the inspection and granting of certifications for seafood products produced by these companies,” said the deputy director of NAFIQAD.
Russia ceased the import of several Vietnamese seafood products in early 2014, including tra and basa fish, for failing to meet food safety requirements. The regulation took effect from January 31, 2014, and was the result of numerous inspections by Russian veterinarians.
Currently, Russia is not a major export market for Vietnamese seafood exporters. The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers said that exports to Russia accounted for USD100 million in 2013, or 1.5% of Vietnam’s total seafood export revenues.
