Cambodian mangoes ship off to China

Agriculture tycoon Mong Reththy yesterday confirmed a second shipment of Koe Romeat mangoes, twice the of the first, will be headed for China this week from his Preah Sihanouk plantation.

Reththy, president of Mong Reththy Group, said he received the order soon after sending the first order of 23 tonnes on April 6.

“After the first export, they recognised our product and support us,” he said, adding that he anticipates expanding to Korea and Japan.

Reththy has invested $2 million in a new mango cleaning and packaging plant, which will be located on his 800-hectare land concession in Preah Sihanouk province.

Chorn Dalis, director of PRL Co, a dried mango producing company in Kampong Speu province, welcomed the news, but said unfit sanitary standards and poor fruit quality had hampered Cambodian mango traders’ ability to export to international markets in the past.
