Japan says it plans to keep ODA amount high
Japan's Official Development Assistance (ODA) to Viet Nam for the next fiscal year beginning in April would remain high, the head of Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) in Viet Nam, Mori Mutsuya, said yesterday.
Mutsuya said before the end of this fiscal year, Japan would provide further loans worth JPY120 billion (about $1.17 billion).
This would bring the total ODA loans provided to Viet Nam for fiscal year 2013 to JPY200 billion ($1.94 billion).
This included an ODA loan agreement signed in Tokyo yesterday worth of JPY25 billion (US$244 million) for the fourth phase of the Viet Nam Support Programme to Response to Climate Change and the second Economic Management and Competitive Credit Programme for Viet Nam.
In recent months, Japan provided JPY55 billion ($535 million) in ODA loans for three Vietnamese projects - building ringroad 3 in Ha Noi , completing terminal two at Noi Bai International Airport, and Da Nhim Hydro-electric Plant in Ninh Thuan Province.
In fiscal year 2014, Japan will help Viet Nam implement 12 technical co-operation projects and 71 training courses.
Mutsuya said that as Viet Nam was a strategic partner, Japan would continue to maintain a close relationship.
