Moc Bai Border Gate Economic Zone

Located at a favourable position on the Trans-Asia Road, Moc Bai Border Gate Economic Zone in Tay Ninh Province is expected to become an international trade centre, promoting cooperation and development between Vietnam and Cambodia and Vietnam and other ASEAN countries.

Moc Bai Border Gate Economic Zone is located on the Trans-Asia Road that starts from Myanmar, goes to Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam and ends at Quangxi, China.

It was built with three border gates on an area of 21,283ha, covering the communes of Long Thuan, Tien Thuan, Loi Thuan, An Thach in Ben Cau District and the communes of Phuoc Luu, Binh Thanh and Phuoc Chi in Trang Bang District. Moc Bai is the largest land border gate in the South in the Vietnam-Cambodia land border route.

At present, the Trans-Asian Road is under construction and the system of roads and bridges are being repaired and expanded, meeting international standards. With the road, Moc Bai is only 70km from Ho Chi Minh City, the largest economic centre of Vietnam, and 170km from Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia.

When the Trans-Asia Road is completed, Moc Bai Border Gate and Tay Ninh Province will become an important intersection in the international transport system and the national transport system in South Vietnam.

With this favourable position, Moc Bai will become an international centre for trade and sub-region cooperation in the economic development strategy of the provinces in southern Vietnam.

So far, Moc Bai with a total registered area of 7,000ha has attracted 34 investors with 46 investment projects, worth 6,200 billion VND.

The target of the general strategy of the economic zone and the system of duty-free supermarkets is to export Vietnamese commodities to Cambodia. Thus, Moc Bai will expand the chain of supermarkets to promote the export of high quality Vietnamese products to Cambodia.

Here, all products are sold from 10 to 15% off as they are exempted from all duties. For this reason, customers from Cambodia can buy the products in an unlimited quantity at a cheaper price than other imported products without being worried about low quality and fake products.

Recently, the Prime Minister signed a decision on establishing Tay Ninh Province’s Economic Zone Management Board on the basis of merging the two management boards of Tay Ninh Industrial Zone and Moc Bai.

The newly established management board has the task of managing, organizing and providing investors with services in public administrative procedures and other supporting services on investment, production and trade.

The relevant bodies in Moc Bai often carry out many measures to prevent and penalize illegal activities, such as illegal trade, taking advantage of policies to smuggle and avoid taxes; and strengthen coordination to inspect and supervise the fight against smuggling activities and trade frauds.

The establishment of Moc Bai helps provide jobs for 1,800 local labourers, making a contribution to reducing smuggling, transporting via the border gates and ensuring national defence and social security at the border area.

Under the development direction and the master construction plan approved by the Prime Minister, by 2020 Moc Bai Border Gate Economic Zone will have a total urban area of 7,400ha with a population of 100,000 people.

The main Moc Bai Border Gate is built on an area of 5ha with management bodies, namely the border guard post, customs post, international quarantine agent, and a chain of showrooms and duty-free shops.

The service and trade area, covering an area of 250ha, consists of a border market, an international trade service area and an area for administrative management and border gate service.

With the above development strategy, it is expected that in the coming years Moc Bai Border Gate Economic Zone will bring into full play its strengths to develop the economy and society of Tay Ninh Province in particular and the Southern area in general.
