Viet Nam, RoK sign agricultural agreement

Viet Nam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to further agricultural cooperation in a joint effort to improve food security.

The MoU follows an agreement reached by the two countries during President Park Geun-hye's visit to Viet Nam last September.

In a press release the RoK's Ministry of Agriculture said the two sides would actively increase bilateral exchanges in agriculture with the establishment of a joint committee on agricultural cooperation, to alleviate concerns with food security.

The agreement also consolidates the strategic partnership between the two nations and is expected to further promote investment in agriculture in each country, the ministry said.

Viet Nam's Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat and his RoK counterpart Lee Dong-phil were present to sign the agreement.

During their meeting in Sejong, Minister Lee Dong-phil said the Republic of Korea would endeavour to share skills and provide agricultural technology for Viet Nam.

The two ministers also discussed other issues, including the RoK's pork exports to Viet Nam.
