Viet Nam enjoys trade surplus with Malaysia

Two-way trade between Viet Nam and Malaysia reached $8.31 billion in 2013, a rise of 13.83 per cent compared to the same period last year, according to trade officials.

Officials at the Office of Commercial Affairs at the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia added that Viet Nam's exports brought in nearly $4.6 billion, a year-on-year increase of 9.85 per cent.

Computers and electronic products topped the list of Vietnamese exports, as they brought home $1.1 billion, followed by crude oil ($879 million), mobile phones and spare parts ($596.5 million), and rubber ($464 million).

The country also shipped 453,240 tonnes of rice to Malaysia, taking in $225.5 million. The figure is expected to reach 529,000 tonnes by year-end.

Meanwhile, Viet Nam imported over $3.7 billion of goods from Malaysia, up 20.58 per cent from one year earlier.
