Deal sends milled rice to Chinese
State-owned Green Trade Company has signed an agreement with China’s Shandong Meijing Rice Co Ltd to export 100,000 tonnes of Cambodia’s milled rice.
The deal was signed between Chinese and Cambodian officials on September 4 at the China-ASEAN summit in the southwest Chinese city of Nanning, according to the director-general of Green Trade, Thon Virak.
“Under the agreement, we will supply them with 100,000 tonnes of milled rice per year,” he said.
“I don’t think we’ll have a problem supplying them because I cooperate with six local rice millers.”
Cambodia expects to export about 300,000 tonnes of milled rice to China per year, Minister of Commerce Cham Prasidh said in August last year.
Virak said Green Trade will start shipping the milled rice to China in early October, and he expects that 30,000 total tonnes will arrive by the end of this year.
