Mining company supports LNCCI on private sector development
A major mining company, Lane Xang Minerals Limited (LXML Sepon), will provide extra support to the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI) for three years for its work on private sector development.
The company (MMG LXML Sepon), a member of the MMG group of companies, signed a memorandum of understanding with the LNCCI last Friday in Vientiane on granting additional support of US$10,000 per year to the chamber.
The agreement was signed by MMG LXML Sepon Director & Manager of Stakeholder Relations, Mr Saman Aneka, MMG LXML Sepon Manager of External Relations Mr Robin Hamilton, LNCCI President Mr Sisavath Thiravong and LNCCI Vice President Mr Daovone Phachanthavong.
The ceremony was witnessed by Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad, senior officials, LNCCI members and other MMG officers.
The MOU will be able to assist the Lao private sector to be stronger, with the supporting money being used on training the administrative staff of companies that are chamber members.
It will also be u sed for buying some office equipment and internet linkage for the provincial chambers of commerce and industry that are currently in need of such.
Mr Saman Aneka said the support is to help LNCCI's members to take advantage of trade opportunities that exist with neighboring countries and the region.
“This is the first time for a foreign company to support the chamber this year,” LNCCI Secretary General Mr Khanthavong Dalavong said.
As an integral part of its corporate governance and commercial activities, and as a significant foreign investor and taxpayer with a large industrial operation in Laos, MMG LXML Sepon has contributed many times as a long standing and active member of the chamber since 2000, and the company wishes to further develop the capacity of the local business sector in partnership with LNCCI.
LNCCI was established in 1989 as an independent body which represents the business community in Laos. It is the nexus between state and private enterprises and represents employers, groups and joint ventures across the board that have been established under the laws of Laos.
It currently has more than 1,000 members represented through subsidiary chambers in 13 provinces and business associations and groups. This makes LNCCI the largest and most representative business community in Laos.
