LYP Group clinches electricity contract
Tycoon and ruling party parliamentarian Ly Young Phat’s LYP Group has been awarded a 29-year leasing agreement to develop and maintain electricity transmission lines, according to a press release from the Council of Ministers.
According to the press release, Prime Minister Hun Sen approved the US$92.21 million investment on 230 kilovolt power transmission lines between Kampong Cham and Kratie and connecting Phnom Penh to eastern provinces, including Kampong Cham, Kratie, Ratanakiri, and Mondulkiri.
“To develop national transmission lines in compliance with our plan, presently, the government is preparing to build sub-stations, and high-tension transmission lines in three different destinations,” it said.
“Initially lines are to connect Phnom Penh to Kampong Cham to build an electricity supply system base at the Eastern provinces of Kampong Cham, Kratie, and Stung Treng.”
Secondly, the plan is to connect Kampot province to Preah Sihanouk, sourcing electricity from a coal-fired power plant in Preah Sihanouk province.
Then thirdly, a link from Phnom Penh to Preah Sihanouk province via National road No 4 to be the Phnom Penh-Kandal, Takeo-Kampot-Sihanouk circuit system will be built.
Keo Rattanak, director general of Electricite du Cambodge, told the Post recently that the government had been working to attract investment for projects in hydropower, in coal plant, in biomass power plants as well as importing power from Thailand, Vietnam and Laos.
