Courier firm to expand

DHL Supply Chain, a company that provides contract logistics solutions, announced yesterday that it would expand its business operations in Viet Nam with an investment of 10 million euros (US$13 million) in facilities and IT solutions.

Most of the investment will cover new facilities, a transport fleet and IT systems for warehousing and transportation management.

The company also expects to increase its staff by at least 170 per cent, to 2,200 from the current 800 by 2015.

Its warehouse space in Viet Nam will increase from the current 91,000 sq m to over 141,000 sq.m, and the transport fleet will expand by over 160 per cent to more than 100 vehicles within two years.

The company has also announced that its second 10,000-sq m built-to-suit distribution centre, in the northen province of Bac Ninh, is due for completion in the third quarter.

With these new investments, the company hopes to strengthen its position especially in the retail, consumer, technology and automotive sectors, according to Jan Willem Winkelhuijzen, DHL's manager in Viet Nam.
