Central bank governor meets commercial bank officials

The Bank of the Lao PDR yesterday held a meeting with commercial banks to review and discuss future work plans.

The annual meeting was presided over by the Governor of the Bank of the Lao PDR, Dr Somphao Phaysith.

A number of officials from the Bank Supervision Department and directors of various commercial banks in Laos also attended the meeting.

At the meeting, bank officials summarised the duties and role of the Bank Supervision Department last year. They also exchanged ideas and discussed solutions to any problems they are facing.

One of the topics which they paid much attention to was the need to find concrete measures to improve management of commercial banks so they can deliver better services to customers.

The government considers the commercial banks as a source of funding for the business sector to expand their work, creating jobs and income for the people.

Banking policies must be in line with resolutions adopted by the 9th Party congress and in particular, resolutions decided by the 2nd Party congress of the Bank of Lao PDR.

The officials also discussed mea sures to improve the standard of banks so they can face stronger business competition as the country joins the Asean Economic Community in 2015.
