Cambodia's trade with Japan reaches 641 mln USD last year
Bilateral trade volume between Cambodia and Japan had amounted to 641 million U.S. dollars last year, up 25 percent compared with the 512 million U.S. dollars in a year earlier, a report of the Japan External Trade Organization showed on Thursday.
Last year, Cambodia's exports to Japan valued at 406 million U. S. dollars, up 32 percent from 307 million U.S. dollars in a year earlier, while Japan's exports to Cambodia were 235 million U.S. dollars, up 15 percent from 205 million U.S. dollars, the report said.
Main products Cambodia shipped to Japan were garment products, footwear, sugar, fish and seafood; in return, the country bought from Japan machinery, automobiles, electronic products, meats, iron, steel and pharmaceutical products.
On the investment side, Japanese have begun to focus their investment in Cambodia in recent years. According to Japanese ambassador to Cambodia Masafumi Kuroki, Japanese investors have invested about 300 million U.S. dollars in Cambodia in the last 3 years.
Speaking during a meeting with Cambodian deputy Prime Minister and foreign minister Hor Namhong on Wednesday, Masafumi Kuroki said that currently, Japanese investors' confidence in Cambodia has increased thanks to Cambodia's full security and political stability, and good relationship between the two governments.
He foresaw that more Japanese businesspeople will come to Cambodia.
