Vietnamese fresh eggs on Hong Kong shelves
A Vietnamese firm has managed to send its fresh chicken eggs into the Hong Kong market at a time when the country is full of imported poultry meat and most other local companies can only export salted duck eggs.

Local egg producers have been eyeing the export market due to the domestic market's surplus of chicken eggs, with retail prices falling to only half of the cost price.
“It’s not easy to export the fresh eggs at all, in spite of our experience in selling salted eggs,” admitted Dam Van Hoat, director of Vietfarm Co Ltd.
Hoat said the Hong Kong partners demand very strict requirements on the products in terms of hygiene and epidemic safety standards.
The company has exerted effort to meet all standards, and was eventually paid off in May, when the very first batch of 144,000 fresh eggs was shipped to Hong Kong.
The local poultry farming sector thus witnessed a positive sign as local companies have finally managed to export fresh eggs rather than only salted eggs.
“After the first successful export batch, our partners have ordered 1 million eggs on a monthly basis,” said Hoat.
He added that Vietfarm has also sought the chance to send its eggs to more markets.
“We shipped 600,000 eggs to Angola on December 10, and this is the first time we have reached the African market,” he said.
“We will continue to export some 1.2 million eggs next month, and the African partner is expected to import 2.4 million eggs a month.”
