SJC changes anti-fake wrapping for small gold bars

National gold bullion from the SJC brand name in small weights of one-tenth to five-tenths of a tael will now bear new anti-fake wrapping, producer Saigon Jewelry Company has announced.

The new package has a holographic SJC in the front center, while the back side is equipped with an anti-fake label with the SJC logo.

The wrapping change came after the market was recently flooded with fake SJC gold bullion that weighed two tenths of a tael.

Gold bullion in that category produced as of October 22 will have the new wrapping, and the company will gradually replace those of the older bars, the company said.

SJC gold bullion in the old packaging will have an unchanged value when circulated, it added.

Gold prices in Vietnam continued to slump on Monday. Gold opened yesterday at VND46.7 million a tael but at one point lost VND570,000, falling to VND46.13 million a tael. At the closing session, selling price rebounded to VND46.22 million a tael.

This is the first time domestic gold prices dropped by greater amounts than the global prices.
