Montgomerie Links named among Asia’s elite golf courses

The stature of Vietnam’s Central Coast as one of Asia’s premier golf destinations has risen another notch with the inclusion of Montgomerie Links in the Forbes Travel Guide list of Asia’s 10 Most Elite Golf Courses.

Released last week, the list includes prestigious courses in Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Bali, Thailand, China and Hong Kong. It follows Montgomerie Links’ recognition at the Asia-Pacific Golf Summit in Thailand last December as the top course in Vietnam.

The links-style layout designed by eight times European Order of Merit winner and 2010 Ryder Cup-winning captain, Colin Montgomerie, has attracted widespread acclaim since it opened in 2009. The following year it was named by Vietnam Golf Magazine as Vietnam’s best course.

“Inclusion in the Forbes Travel Guide list is another milestone for the course and facilities, including the Estates villas development, in an area that has quickly become recognised as the place to play golf in Vietnam,” said Montgomerie Links’ general director Jon Tomlinson.

“Nowhere else in Asia has the combination of wonderful coastal land that is perfect for golf, beautiful beaches, cultural attractions and new high quality tourism infrastructure,” added Tomlinson

Forbes Travel Guide described Montgomerie Links as a world-class, semi-private club and perhaps the ritziest course you’ll find around Danang City. Located a stone’s throw from the country’s Central Coast and a few minutes from Danang International Airport, Montgomerie Links is situated alongside the East Sea and striking Marble Mountains. The 18-hole, Colin Montgomerie-designed course features outstanding sandy soil, wind-blown dunes and stylish onsite estates, making it one of Asia’s most desirable golf and country club retreats.

The 7090-yard, par-72 layout is set in a natural sand dune environment near famous My Khe beach, midway between Danang and the UNESCO World Heritage-listed city of Hoi An.

Developed and owned by IndoChina Capital, one of Vietnam’s leading real estate and financial services companies. Its investments in the Central Coast region comprise Montgomerie Links, the Hyatt Regency Danang, Indochina Riverside Towers in Danang and the Nam Hai resort near Hoi An.

Montgomerie Links is one of three courses in the Danang-Hoi An-Hue region that are founding members of Golf Coast Vietnam, a destination-marketing co-operative formed earlier this year to promote golf tourism in the Central Coast region.

Other members are the Greg Norman-designed Danang Golf Club, just five minutes’ north of Montgomerie Links, and Laguna Lang Co, a new layout between Danang and Hue that was designed by Sir Nick Faldo and is due to open in December.

The nine other courses in the Forbes Travel Guide list are: Blue Canyon Country Club, Phuket, Thailand; Nirwana Bali Golf Club, Bali, Indonesia; Sentosa Golf Club, Singapore; The Dunes at Shenzhou Peninsula, Hainan, China; The Phoenix Seagaia Resort, Miyazaki City, Japan; The Sunrise Golf and Country Club, Taiwan; Thai Country Club, Bangkok, Thailand; Spring City Golf & Lake Resort, Kunming, China.
