Gold hits nearly VND47.4 million/tael

Domestic gold prices rose to VND47.4 million per tael on September 14, up nearly VND1 million from the previous day’s transaction.

At 9am, SJC gold was listed at VND47.05-47.4 million/tael in Ho Chi Minh City and hovered around VND47.2-VND47.4 million/tael in Hanoi, VND950,00 per tael higher than a day earlier.

The US Federal Reserve System (Fed) announced on September 13 that it will expand its holdings of long-term securities with the open-ended purchase of mortgage debts worth US$40 billion a month in a third round of quantitative easing. The announcement has sent gold prices on the world market soaring all of a sudden.

In Asia, the gold price went up by 2.16 percent to US$1,769/oz at 6am on September 14 and to US$1,774.91/oz two hours later.
