Electric transmission tower factory to open in Laos

Th e first high-voltage electric transmission line tower factory is set to begin production in Laos, to supply both the domestic market and those of neighbouring countri es.

The contract establishing the 115KV-230KV-500KV tower factory was signed yesterday in Vientiane by Electricite du Laos (EDL) Managing Director Mr Sisavath Thiravong and Phungjing Co., Ltd President Mr Lee Sang Bok.

Under the contract agreement, the factory will be located in Hadkieng village, Xaythany district in Vientiane, with a total land area of five hectares and access to roads, electricity and water.

The project is set to commence in October after receiving all necessary licenses from the Lao government and construction is expected to take four months to complete. The project will cost about US$50 million, which will be wholly funded by the Phungjing Company.

The company will have a 90 percent ownership interest, while EDL will hold the remaining 10 percent.

High voltage transmission towers are expected to sell in neighbouring markets such as Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Myanmar, and also in the domestic market.

The company will provide scholarships for five senior officials in the electricity sector to receive training in machine management in South Korea.
