VN to host ASEAN oil and gas seminar next year

The 10th ASEAN Council of Petroleum (ASCOPE) Conference and Exhibition, the leading oil and gas event in the South-East Asian region, will be held for the first time in Viet Nam in 2013.

The theme of the event, which will take place from 28-30 November at the Sai Gon Exhibition and Convention Centre in HCM City, is 'Innovation & Co-operation - The Way Forward'.

Held every four years by ASCOPE member nations, the event will be hosted by PetroVietnam and managed by Malaysian event management company My Events International.

PetroVietnam's general director Do Van Hau said the conference aims to enhance relation and co-operation in the petroleum industry among ASEAN members, as well as offer members opportunities to exchange experiences and technical know-how with international oil companies worldwide.

Hau said ASCOPE members often discussed co-operation opportunities and revealed that PetroVietnam, together with Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) of Malaysia and PT Pertamina Persero (Pertamina) of Indonesia, had established close ties to work together on exploring oil and gas in the three countries.

During this event, Hau expected more co-operation and contractual negotiations among petroleum corporations, services and consultancy agencies would be further discussed.

The event is expected to draw about 300 exhibitors and 500 conference delegates from in and outside the region.

Leading companies from the oil and gas industry will be showcasing the latest equipment and technologies for oil and gas exploration, production and transportation, including innovate projects for oil and gas facilities construction, integrated operational systems for plant management and services for oil and gas complexes.

The conference, meanwhile, will discuss burning issues in the oil and gas industry, providing timely insight into the outlook for the sector across ASEAN.

ASCOPE, set up in 1975 by five founding members, includes 10 national petroleum companies from ASEAN countries. Viet Nam became the council's seventh member in November 1996.
