Korean investors eye potential in Laos, Vietnam

Secretary General of the Asean-Korean Centre, Hae Moon Chung, has sent potential investors to Vietnam and Laos to consider investment in the construction, engineering, agri-foods and second-hand auto parts sectors.

The business leaders are mulling opportunities and obtaining information during their mission from April 22-28.

The Asean-Korea Centre is an international organisation that aims to promote economic and socio-cultural cooperation between Southeast Asia and the Republic of Korea.

The mission is comprised of an expert and 25 company representatives.

They will identify investment opportunities and build business networks through the mission programmes, which include visits to government organisations, business meetings, and industrial sites.

In Vietnam, the mission members will be briefed on the new investment climate and policies, particularly on industrial prospects in construction and manufacturing by the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency, Ministry of Planning and Investment, and Ministry of Transportation.

This delegation will also visit BECAMEX IDC Corp. and a state-owned enterprise in Bin Duong province in the biggest industrial city in southern Vietnam. They aim to gain a better understanding of the local business environment and to expand business networks.

In Laos, the mission members will visit the Ministry of Planning and Investment, receive briefings on current investment opportunities and will be given a series of presentations by various government organisations such as the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and Ministry of Commerce.

They will also have business meetings and visits to construction and manufacturing related com-panies in order to gain first-hand experience. In addition, a representative of the Kolao group, which is engaged in manufacturing, automobiles, construction, and banking in Laos, will share his valuable business experiences.

The investment mission programme will help participants to better understand the investment climate in Vietnam and Laos. It will also help facilitate ties among the business community to expand investment opportunities.

Amid growing interest in Asean food and beverages in the Korean market, an exhibition aimed to inform potential Korean importers and buyers by displaying a wide selection of products, including confectionery, dried fruit and pre-cooked frozen food.

The Asean-Korea Centre also faciliated business meetings between Asean companies and potential Korean importers and buyers, and arranged cooking demonstrations and food tasting at the Asean kitchen in the Asian Pavilion hotel in Vientiane.
