BCEL recovers 150 kip

Light volumes returned Monday but the index fell for the second straight day down 12.97 points yesterday to 1004.58. BCEL the only stock traded had its best share turnover since Dec-23 with 65,567 stocks. Volumes improved yesterday from 1,377 stocks to 65,567 and turnover went from US$1K to an improved US$53.4K.

A quick review of the boards noted BCEL had recovered 150 kip to 6,500 kip and saw EDL-Gen 5,000 kip untraded. By the close however EDL-Gen had 2 percent wiped off its share price yesterday under local LSX adjustment rules even though no trades occurred. Five times since listing has EDL-Gen failed to trade. It's mysterious as to why on three of the five occasions no price adjustment occurred. It will be interesting to see at what price EDL-Gen opens today.

Markets remain unchanged

Global Markets : Largely were all unchanged in a flat line with no dramatic headlines evident as April momentum continues to build.

Currencies : Forex traders toughed it out with currencies largely unchanged if anything the US$ slipped 2/ 10ths percent and the CAD Looney wrestled US$0.9901, the AUD embattled at US$1.0465 with interest rates in hold yesterday, until May 1. The €uro was firmer at US$1.3350, the pound sturdy at US$1.603.

Metals : In a good week Gold went from US$1662.4 intraday to US$1676 /oz. Copper tested the resistance barrier at US$3.90 / lb, LME copper up US$165 at US$8,640 / tn. Tin gained a massive US$450 / tn overnight to US$23,225. Mining Co' PNA.ASX on our radar gained from AU$3-00.

Gold rose to US$1671. Silver steady but up at US$32.98

Oil: Brent crude slightly down US$124.43 with Nymex at US$104 / brl.

Commodities: Palm Oil from US$3,000 last year to a new 52WH US$3, 594. Rice {WRF percent AFET bt/tn} Feb-6 delivery 16,112 up Mar-19 rose to 16,620 baht or US$540.84 /tn

• Indexes: The Thai index up 2.32 pct intraday hovered at resistance, a new high of 1199.36 points. US indexes gained 0.75 percent with the S&P500 hitting May 2008 highs. In Vietnam, Hanoi lost 1 percent and the HCMC index held a rocky 441 points. NE Asia saw the Nikkei fell 0.30 percent the Kospi was up 6/ 10th percent. Tech Stock NWT Newsat post rights issue was up 1 cent AU$0.605c but then slipped to 60 cents.
