Water price in Vientiane set to rise

The price of water will be adjusted higher gradually by about 3-5 percent from now until 2018 and divided into three main levels of users.

The new service will start to be implemented immediately according to the Vientiane Administration Office announcement.

Between 2015 and 2016, the price of water supply will increase by about three percent, four percent in 2017 and five percent in 2018.

The aim of the adjustment is to get water supply users in Vientiane to pay service fees appropriate to their use because in the past they all paid the same rate.

Nam Papa Nakhone Luang General Manager, Mr Khampheuy Vongsackhamphoui commented that it would separate general householders from businesses because you shouldn’t compare the amount of water used by a family to that consumed by commercial operations.

The first rate for families who use water at a rate of 1 to 10 cubic metres a month will have to pay 1,300 kip a cubic metre per month this year, 1,339 kip a cubic metre next year, 1,379 kip in 2016, 1,434 kip in 2017 and 1,560 kip in 2018.

For families who use water at a rate of 11 to 30 cubic metres a month will pay 1,800 kip per cubic metre this year, 1,854 kip in 2015, 1,910 kip in 2016, 1,986 kip in 2017 and 2,085 kip in 2018.

Those who use 31 to 50 metres a month will be required to pay 2,300 kip a cubic metre in 2014, 2,369 kip in 2015, 2,240 kip in 2016, 2,538 kip in 2017 and 2,665 kip in 2018.

Families who use water at a rate of more than 51 cubic metres a month will pay 2,300 kip a cubic metre per month in 2014, 2,884 kip in 2015, 2,970 kip in 2016, 3,089 kip in 2017 and 3,244 kip in 2018.

Secondly, government organisations, embassies and international organisations will pay 2,300 kip a cubic metre per month this year, 2,369 kip in 2015, 2,240 kip in 2016, 2,538 kip in 2017 and 2,665 kip in 2018.

While thirdly, businesses and trade units such as hotels, restaurants, factories will pay 2,800 kip a cubic metre per month this year, 2,884 kip next year, 2,971 kip in 2016, 3,089 kip in 2017 and 3,244 kip in 2018.
