Siemens Healthcare eyes Lao market

Medical equipment producer, Siemens Healthcare, is hoping to expand into Laos ahead of the Asean Economic Community (AEC) next year.

Siemens Healthcare in cooperation with CBF Pharma Co., Ltd introduced their modern medical equipment, including CT scanners and MRI scanners, in Vientiane last week.

The seminar was attended by doctors and radiologists from major hospitals in Vientiane, Khammuan, Savannakhet and Champassak provinces.

The Ministry of Health's Healthcare Department Director General, Assoc Prof. Dr Chanphomma Vongsamphanh said the seminar was held to help participants increase their understanding on using CT scanners and MRI equipment.

The equipment was used to diagnose diseases, he said.

The company's Marketing Officer Ms Southanom Litthavong said that Thailand and Vietnam were already using this equipment in their hospitals but Laos had yet to join in.

The products would be imported through CBF Pharma Co., Ltd in Laos, when hospitals began ordering the equipment, Ms Southanom said.

Despite the price of the equipment being higher, it allows for easy use and diagnoses diseases accurately, she said.

CBF Pharma Co., Ltd Director General Dr Chinda Vongsouri said medical equipment suppliers in Laos were actively participating in improving the quality of healthcare in the country.

The company aims to seek partnerships on an international level, with Siemens Healthcare importing modern technology to provide their services to Laos.

Dr Chinda said this would be an opportunity to help Laos successfully integrate into the AEC.
