Gold price steadily rising

Gold jewellery was selling at more than 5.2 million kip per gold baht (15.244g) yesterday at Vientiane's Talatsao Mall, with buyers purchasing with a view to stockpile long-term.

Local gold trader, Ms Buachanh Phamisith, told Vientiane Times the price of gold had barely changed since last month.

“However I believe it may increase next month but it won't rise too high,” she said.

The Lao Gem Jewellery Trader Association reported gold prices were at 5.1 million kip per gold baht last month.

Gold prices are largely unchanged on world markets and Lao prices remain slightly expensive.

According to the Gold Traders Association of Thailand, the purchase price per gold baht was recorded yesterday at 19,116 baht (4.8 million kip) and the sale price was about 19,900 baht (5 million kip).

Gold was selling for 6.88 million kip per gold baht in early January and continued to drop in mid-February to 6.34 million kip.
