Markets make modest gains

Stocks managed to post gains this morning, but liquidity kept sliding on the two exchanges.

On the HCM Stock Exchange, the VN-Index added another 0.15 points to close at 593.02 points.

Blue chips closed mixed, while several bank stocks fell. Investors focused on realty stocks this morning, as there were many gainers from this sector, including Hoang Quan Consulting Trading Service Real Estate Service (HQC), Tan Tao Investment Industry (ITA), Dat Xanh Real Estate (DXG) and HCM City Infrastructure Investment (CII).

The VN30, which tracks the top 30 shares by market value and liquidity, inched up just 0.38 per cent to end at 624.81 points.

The overall liquidity declined by about 25 per cent from yesterday morning, with nearly 57 million shares worth VND888.3 billion (US$40.7 million) being traded.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index also increased 0.38 per cent to finish at 85.26 points, but the market value was low at VND285.3 billion ($13.1 million).

The afternoon session will start at 1pm.
