Lao stock exchange opens doors to new investors

The Lao Securities Exchange (LSX) on Saturday hosted a publicity event titled Investment Gateway 2015 (IG 2015) to inform interested parties seeking opportunities and challenges in the capital market.

The event explained how it was possible to raise funds for business expansion and how businesses should prepare for Laos' participation in the Asean Economic Community (AEC), which comes into being at the end of this year.

Under the slogan “5th Anniversary of LSX Towards AEC”, the event also marked the fifth anniversary of the foundation of the Lao Stock Exchange and the coming integration with the AEC.

The LSX partnered with the Bank of the Lao PDR, Lao Securities Commission Office and securities, listed, audit and consultancy firms as well as companies considering listing on the stock exchange to stage the event. They set up more than 20 booths to publicise their work, performance, services and products.

Also on the agenda was a panel discussion featuring executives from listed and potential listed companies as well as seminars led by highly-experienced operators on practical topics in various areas.

They described ways to raise capital, investment in stocks, the benefits of listing on the stock exchange, and opportunities for businesses within the AEC.

There were also games with prizes such as cash to open a securities account, Polo T-shirts, bags, cups, notebooks, and pens being provided to visitors.

Participants could also open securities accounts and make enquiries about stock investments with securities companies represented at the event.

LSX Chairman and CEO Mr Vankham Voravong said that on behalf of the new LSX administrator he would ensure the stock exchange remained a strong option for businesses seeking to raise capital.

He would aim to increase the liquidity and services of the LSX through transparent, just and modern methods so the stock market remained competitive and could integrate with other securities markets in the region.

The event was attended by the Bank of the Lao PDR Vice Governor, Ms Vattana Dalaloy, LSX officials and representatives from relevant sectors.
