Government revises planning in economic zones

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has agreed to adjust general planning for the Tinh Phong and Quang Ngai VSIP industrial zones in central Quang Ngai Province's Economic Zone (EZ), according to the Government website chinhphu.vn.

The deputy prime minister assigned the Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee and the Ministry of Construction to build and evaluate the plan to adjust a part of the Quang Ngai EZ.

Prior to this assignment, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung approved the revised general planning for the Quang Ngai EZ by 2025.

The EZ has a total area of 45,332ha, of which the EZ proper makes up 10,300ha, the expanded area makes up about 24,280ha and the seas surface makes up more than 10,000ha.

Under the revised plan, the Dung Quat EZ would become a multi-sectoral zone with various industries, among them focal sectors such as chemicals, petrochemical refineries, steel laminating and ship building, as well as industries relating to deep-water ports.

Dung Quat will also become the national oil refinery centre and an open industry city, as well as a centre providing port services. The EZ will also include the Van Tuong, Doc Soi and Chau O-Binh Long residential areas.

For 20 years, the Dung Quat EZ has attracted 114 projects with a total registered capital of more than US$8 billion, of which $5 billion had been disbursed. The EZ contributed to the province's VND28-trillion ($1.33 billion) budget.
