Lao Green Co to run electric buses in Luang Prabang
The world heritage city of Luang Prabang has introduced mini electric buses to facilitate clean transport and protect the environment in the popular tourist destination.
Luang Prabang Public Works and Transport Department announced recently that it has authorised Lao Green Co. Ltd to run electric buses in the city, hoping that the pollution free passenger transport vehicles will help maintain the beauty of the world heritage town.
The first electric bus route runs from the Km 4 provincial radio station to Luang Prabang district centre. The second route runs from Nan district station to the town centre and third route is from Sangkhou to the main tourist area. The three buses charge passengers only 3,000 kip per trip.
Meanwhile, the fourth route runs from number one bridge to Souphanouvong University, which will cost 5,000 kip per trip due to the greater distance.
Mr Vongdeuan, one of the electric bus drivers, said that he had been driving the bus for two months already and that one of the main attractions for people is the cheaper service price.
M ost of the customers who use the electric bus service are students and residents who have very little money, he said, reckoning that after two months some 10,000 passengers have caught the bus already.
The number of customers using the electric bus service is also expected to increase even further in the future as the provincial authorities are promoting the use of the electric bus.
Lao Green Co. Ltd not only provides bus services to normal passengers but also provides a contract service for tourists, in particular the ones who want to take a tour around the world heritage town.
Any people who are interested to rent or use the electric bus service are advised to discuss the matter with company officials at the Nan bus station.
Company officials also said that if travel agents have many passengers, Lao Green Co can pick up the tourists from their hotels.
The use of electric buses in Luang Prabang suits the city's image as the world herit age town is promoting environmental protection. The buses do not produce air and noise pollution as normal buses do.
