Star Telecom fails to collect planned revenue

Star Telecom Company Limited was able to generate net revenue of 1,380 billion kip (US$173.4 million) or 90 percent of its planned earnings for 2013.

The company had planned to collect 1,530 billion kip in 2013 (more than US$192.2 million), according to a senior company officer.

But Star Telecom did enjoy a revenue increase of 110 percent over 2012.

The figures were announced at the company's annual meeting in Vientiane this week attended by the board of directors, including the managing director, senior managers and invited guests.

In 2013 the company had planned to increase the number of users to 484,120 but has so far only been able to reach just over 317,000, or about 66 percent of the target.

The company had also expected to hand over about 432 billion kip (US$54.4 million) to the government but this figure was reduced to about 416 billion kip (US$52 million) based on actual income.

A payment of more than 12 billion kip was made to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunication and Communication for the use of the airwaves.

The company also helped the authorities in Oudomxay province build schools for flood victims, worth more than 200 million kip along with contributions to social welfare at central and local levels.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Office Head of the Ministry of National Defence, Lieutenant Colonel Khamsy Vongkhamsao.
