Bac Lieu to have new wind power plant

The main components of the Dong Hai 1 wind power project, which costs an estimated VND2.5 trillion (US$107.7 million), in the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu will be built in the last quarter of this year, following the launch of an operation center for the plant earlier on April 15.

At the groundbreaking ceremony for the operation center, a representative of Bac Phuong Energy Co., Ltd, which executed the first phase of the project, said that the Bac Lieu government had granted the investment certificate for the first phase of the project on April 11 last year.

The project, when fully in place, will meet the demand for electricity in Bac Lieu Province and the Mekong Delta region as a whole.

Covering more than 935 hectares of Dong Hai District, the project is scheduled to be completed and put into trial operation in the first quarter of 2021. It will be put into commercial operation in the next quarter.

The plant, when operational, is expected to annually provide more than 161 million kilowatt hours of electricity to the national grid.

In the first phase, the project will have a capacity of 50 megawatts with 12 wind turbines. A transformer station, a 110-kV transmission line from the plant to the 110-kV Hoa Binh-Dong Hai transmission line, an operation center and a residential area for workers and other auxiliary components will also be developed.

Bac Lieu is one of the leading localities in the Mekong Delta involved in the development of wind power plants.

The province has plans to develop four wind power plants in the Dong Hai and Hoa Binh districts this year. These projects will have a total capacity of more than 300 megawatts and a total investment of VND16.4 trillion.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has approved the province’s plan to generate over 400 megawatts of wind power by 2020 and 1,500 megawatts by 2030.
