ADB suggests $67 mln smart city in Can Tho

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has proposed that Can Tho authorities develop a smart and energy efficient city project (SEECP) worth $67.29 million.

The SEECP would save energy and reduce carbon emissions by equipping the city smart light systems, replacing street lights with smart LED lights, setting up surveillance cameras and environmental monitoring systems.

It will upgrade 50 public buildings in Can Tho City, including hospitals, schools and offices, to ensure energy efficiency.

The project's funding will come from an official development assistance loan (ODA) of $32.97 million from ADB, another ODA loan of $7.07 million from the Green Climate Fund (GCF), a non-refundable aid of $7.07 million and the rest from the state budget.

Work on the project is set to start next year.

The ADB is working on SEECP in six provinces and cities in Vietnam, including Hanoi, the northern province of Quang Ninh, the central province of Quang Nam, the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, the central city of Da Nang; and the southern city of Can Tho, according to Au Minh Tuan, an ADB senior specialist in energy project development.
