Farming product exports at Lao Cai border gate up almost 11%

Farming products exported via the Lao Cai international border gate have seen strong growth this year, including dragon fruit, watermelon and mango, said Tran Anh Tu, Deputy Director of Lao Cai Border Gate Customs Department.

By June 10, total products exported via the border gate reached about 532,000 tonnes, a year on year increase of 10.7 per cent. Of which, some fruit products have experienced strong growth, such as dragon fruit at over 340,000 tonnes, earning $220 million, an increase of 16.37 per cent year on year.

Exports of watermelon reached 23,000 tonnes, with a value of $6 million, up 32.4 per cent, and 4,000 tonnes of mango valued at $2.4 million, up 46.24 per cent. However, lychee exports at the border gate dropped to 16,643 tonnes, worth over $9 million or 84.38 per cent compared to the same period of 2018.

To support agricultural export enterprises, Lao Cai Customs Department and Border Guard as well as the plant quarantine agency at Kim Thanh Border Gate will coordinate and create favourable conditions for quick customs clearance.
