Cambodia’s Kunthear Mov wins Women of the Future ‘Social Entrepreneur’ award

A Young Cambodian female entrepreneur in the fashion industry won a 2019 Women of the Future Awards Southeast Asia in a ceremony in Singapore on Thursday.

Ten young female entrepreneurs among 56 hailing from all 10 Asean countries were awarded in 10 categories, a press release said.

Kunthear Mov, co-founder and managing director of Dorsu (Cambodia), a Kampot province fashion company, and the only Cambodian, won the award in the Social Entrepreneur category.

Mov told The Post on Sunday that winning was a great honour. She said the programme had provided her with opportunities to meet famous businesspeople from around the world who could help develop her business.

“I hope that my winning an award will set an example for other young Cambodian women entrepreneurs to strive for their businesses and improve their skills,” she said.

Since starting her business in 2006 with only $200, Mov said she overcame many obstacles to find success.

“To be successful in business, I constantly strive to develop myself and maintain confidence.”

Women of the Future Awards Southeast Asia was launched last year and aims to encourage and promote regional outstanding young female entrepreneurs with awards in categories that include Social Entrepreneur, Media & Communications, Technology & Digital, Public Service and Property.

Nusrat Mehboob Lilani CBE, known as Pinky Lilani – founder of Women of the Future – said that the programme is attracting the interest of the region’s young and talented female entrepreneurs.

“We continue to be inspired and impressed with the number of passionate, driven and talented young women across Southeast Asia, and we are proud to recognise and celebrate their achievements,” Lilani said.

Young women are trailblazers committed to creating a kinder, more collaborative future for their communities and a true inspiration to all, she added.
