Phu My Hung Spring Flower Festival blossoms next week

Thousands of people are expected to visit the annual Phu My Hung Spring Flower Festival to be organised at the Phu My Hung City Centre in District 7, HCM City, from January 28 to February 4.

Continuing with the topic of “Country flower” it has explored for years, Phu My Hung Development Corporation this year has “Flower and Life” as the festival theme to respect the beauty of flowers, which are considered the messengers of spring.

At a press conference held to launch the festival, Truong Quoc Hung, Phu My Hung vice president, said his company has organised the spring flower festival since 2012.

From being a small festival meant for local residents in the early days, it has now become a large traditional community-centred event that Phu My Hung organises for people from all over the city.

More and more visitors are coming to the event every year, he said.

This year his company was very happy to receive support from District 7 authorities, who have become co-organisers of the festival, he said.

He revealed that preparations had begun in the middle of last year to create a beautiful venue for people to visit during the New Lunar New Year festival.

Like last year this year too the festival will be organised at the Crescent Lake area.

The venue will be over 7ha and divided into four main areas: Spring Road, Spring Wharf, Spring Garden, and Spring Contribution.

Spring Road will be a place narrating the story of flowers’ journey from where they are grown in colourful countryside gardens to big cities to symbolise the arrival of spring.

At the Spring Road, visitors can enjoy replicas of famous places connected with flowers like Sa Dec flower village, Nhat Tan Flower Garden in Ha Noi and mai (apricot) flower gardens in the south.

Flowers are like a new shirt that spring begets since they colour every nook and corner and make them more beautiful as a new year arrives.

The Spring Road will have statues of the pig, the animal representing the 2019 lunar year, the Year of the Pig. They will be pigs drawn from traditional Dong Ho pictures and kids’ cartoons.

Spring Wharf will be the main feature of the Spring Flower Festival and fittingly be located in the middle of the Crescent Lake area.

Spring Wharf will look like a water flower market be a place for people to let their wishing lotus lanterns into the lake.

There will be traditional art performances on a stage on the lake’s surface.

Garden Spring will be connected with Spring Wharf by Anh Sao (Starlight) Bridge. It will be designed to give visitors the feeling of visiting a bucolic village with many kinds of vegetable.

Spring Contribution will feature displays of flower and ornamental trees created by experienced artisans from famous flower villages like Ben Tre, Dong Thap and Tien Giang provinces and HCM City.

There will be a competition organised by the corporation together with the HCM City Orchid and Ornamental Tree Association.

It will have three categories, including one only for Phu My Hung residents.

This is the second year that the competition includes a category for Phu My Hung residents, which is aimed at spreading the message of a green-clean-beautiful life within the Phu My Hung community.

The winning creations will be displayed at the festival.

Through the efforts of the company and local authorities, the Phu My Hung Spring Festival has become a cultural destination in District 7 during the Lunar New Year every year.

This year, it has received support from many companies including Unilever Vietnam, Lazada Vietnam, Dinh Dan Company Ltd (Zoe Events), Vinasun Taxi, and PG Ads Joint Stock Company.

Last year the festival welcomed 1.7 million visitors and had 250 booths.
