Agricultural exports exceed $1.57B in January-April

Cambodia exported $1.57297 billion worth of agricultural products in the first four months of this year, according to the agriculture ministry on May 20.

Broken down by category, paddy accounted for $296.72 million, or 18.86 per cent of the total, milled rice $189.07 million (12.02 per cent), and other goods $1.08719 billion (69.12 per cent), the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries reported.

Non-rice agriculture products exported in January-April weighed in at 2,762,563 tonnes, comprising – among other items – cassava, cashew nuts, corn, mung beans, soybeans, bananas, pomelos, mangoes, palm oil, peppercorn, tobacco and vegetables.

Meanwhile, paddy and milled-rice exports in the period totalled 1,648,474 tonnes and 50,599 tonnes, respectively.

Agriculture minister Veng Sakhon recently commented that cultivation had been on the rise in the Covid-19 era, and that his ministry had implemented several measures to support and boost production and quality, to respond more effectively to local and international demand.

The ministry’s General Directorate of Agriculture said that in 2021, the Kingdom exported 7,984,251.83 tonnes of agricultural products to 68 countries and territories, marking a 63.83 per cent increase over 2020, and netting more than $4.96785 billion.
