Viet Nam – Japan Friendship Industrial Park inaugurated in Can Tho

An industrial park opened in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on Saturday to mark the 45th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties between Viet Nam and Japan.

Located in Tan Phu Ward in Cai Rang District, the Viet Nam – Japan Friendship Industrial Park currently has the total area of 30 hectares.

The modern complex boasts a complete system of technical infrastructure which can ensure the standards of a green industrial park.

The park offers a wide range of services, including electronic components, information technology, engineering and pharmacy.

The location of the park is ideal for investors as it lies just 5km from the city’s administrative centre and 15km from the Can Tho International Airport.

It is also near two international seaports which can accommodate ships with a tonnage of up to 20,000 tonnes, and helps connect Can Tho with industrial parks in the nearby provinces of Hau Giang and Soc Trang.

Speaking at the launch, Vo Thanh Thong, chairman of the Can Tho People’s Committee pledged to create the best conditions for investors, especially those from Japan, in their production and business.

Vu Tien Loc, president of the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) said in the context of the increasing international economic integration, the inauguration of the park was an important milestone for the city.

“It marks a new stage in the economic cooperation, trade and investment between Japan and Can Tho in particular and the Mekong Delta in general,” he said.

The official highlighted that Can Tho and the region had made active preparations for a wave of Japanese investment through annual cultural and economic exchange activities.

“The effort is working well as it has helped attract more and more Japanese investors to the locality,” he said.

A report by the chamber’s Can Tho branch shows that by the end of October, the Mekong Delta had attracted 169 investment projects from Japan with a combined registered capital of US$2.2 billion, representing 10.5 per cent of the total foreign investment to the whole region.
