Start-up expo opens in HCMC

A number of start-up projects and models are being showcased at the two-day Technology Show and Start-up and Innovative Summit that opened in HCM City on Thursday.

Technology products from start-ups are on show as they seek customers and investors, and there is an event to match investors and start-ups besides various seminars.

A memorandum of understanding for co-operation will be signed by the city’s Department of Science and Technology, Lotte Accelerator and Vietnam Silicon Valley Accelerator to develop the city’s innovative start-up eco-system.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, vice-chairman of the city People’s Committee, Le Thanh Liem, said the event was a forum for potential entrepreneurs to seek investment in their start-ups and innovative projects and models.

Visiting Finnish Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Tapani Lintila said his Government renewed a memorandum of understanding with Viet Nam’s Ministry of Science and Technology for co-operation in many areas such research and education.

“In Finland, we have a lot of experience with start-ups. We will be happy to help Viet Nam grow its start-ups.”

HCM City should pay more attention to talented people since “first comes talent and then come start-ups,” he said.

The exhibition is being organised by the city’s People’s Committee and Finnish Embassy in Ha Noi.

The summit is among the events held as part of the “Week for HCM City Innovation, Start-ups and Entrepreneurship” from October 15 to 19.
