Shares rebound on bank support

Shares rebounded on Thursday morning on the two national stock exchanges boosted by financial stocks.

 

On HCM Stock Exchange, the VNIndex increased by 1.6 per cent to close the morning trade at 963.34 points after slipping by 0.4 per cent on Wednesday.

On Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNXIndex increased by 1.1 per cent to 112.92 points. The northern market index had decreased by one per cent in the previous session.

Banks led the gainers, with 10 of the 11 listed lenders on the two exchanges rising. HDBank, VPBank and Military Bank were the main gainers, up by 4.4 per cent, 3.6 per cent and 2.7 per cent, respectively.

Other banks rose between one to two per cent. Supporters included VinGroup, PV Gas, Vietjet and Mobile World Group, with gains of one to four per cent each.

On the other hand, the losers that restrained the market growth were brewer Sabeco, Vinamilk and Vinhomes.

Liquidity improved, with a total of 112.4 million shares, worth VND2.9 trillion (roughly US$126 million) being traded in the two markets.
