Khanh Hoa suspends land transfer in economic zone

Khanh Hoa Province’s People’s Committee Chairman Le Duc Vinh has signed a document to suspend the conversion of land use purposes and land transfers in Van Ninh District.

The district is set to become Bac Van Phong special administrative economic unit.

As per the document, Vinh has assigned the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to assume the primary responsibility and coordinate with relevant departments in carrying out the suspension.

The suspension will be effective until the general planning for the construction of Bac Van Phong special administrative economic zone is approved by a competent State agency.

According to the report of Van Ninh District People’s Committee, land violations and hike in land prices are on the rise in the region even as investors look towards its future economic zone status. In the first quarter of this year, the locality received and resolved more than 2,250 cases of transfers of land use rights, equal to 65 per cent of the total number of records processed in 2017.

Bac Van Phong will be one of the first three special administrative economic zones in Viet Nam. The others are Van Don in the northern province of Quang Ninh and Phu Quoc in southern Kien Giang Province.

Prior to this, the local authorities of Quang Ninh and Kien Giang provinces also requested the suspension of land use conversions and land transfers in Van Don and Phu Quoc until the National Assembly adopted the Law on Special Administrative Economic Zones later this month.
