Vietnameseshares fall, large-capstocks underperform

Vietnamese shares fell on Wednesday morning as large-cap companies suffered from strong investors’ selling.

 

The benchmark VN Index on HCM Stock Exchange inched down 0.03 per cent to close at 1,119.91 points. It had gained 2.45 per cent on Tuesday.

The minor HNX Index on Ha Noi Stock Exchange lost 0.43 per cent to end at 126.79 points, stepping down from a 1.4 per cent growth.

The UPCOM Index on the Unlisted Public Company Market fell 0.41 per cent to 60.77 points after having risen by two per cent in the previous three sessions.

More than 208.3 million shares, worth VND5.07 trillion (US$225.6 million), were traded in the Vietnamese stock market.

The market breadth was balanced with 266 gaining stocks and 274 declining ones, while 145 other stocks ended flat.

Large-cap stocks underperformed, pulling the VN30 Index down 0.29 per cent to 1,100.10 points. The VN30 Index tracks the performance of the 30 largest stocks by market capitalisation.

Among the decliners in the VN30 Index were steel producer Hoa Phat Group, Coteccons Construction Corp., digital retailer Mobile World, petrol dealer Petrolimex and Binh Minh Plastic JSC.

The afternoon trade session starts at 1pm.
