Blue chips boost shares

Shares moved up on Tuesday morning based on specific blue chips, which gained significant attention from foreign investors.

The benchmark VN Index on HCM Stock Exchange inched 0.06 per cent to close at 1,115.19 points. It had gained 1.06 per cent to settle at 1,114.53 points on Monday.

The HNX Index on Ha Noi Stock Exchange inched 0.83 per cent to end at 125.21 points. The index had dropped 0.06 points to end at 126.18 points on Monday.

Meanwhile, the UPCOM Index on the Unlisted Public Company Market increased by 0.86 per cent to stand at 60.07 points. It had inched 0.31 per cent to finish at 59.74 points on Monday.

More than 151.28 million shares, worth VNĐ4.2 trillion (US$186.4 million), were traded on the three exchanges in the morning trade.

Despite the upward trend, the market was dominated by declining stocks, which outstripped gainers by 330 to 234.

Blue chips continued to perform well, as 18 of the 30 largest ones by market capitalisation and liquidity in the VN30 Index increased.

The VN30 Index was up 0.28 per cent to end at 1,102.75 points.

Favourable moves on Dow Jones overnight also partly affected the national stock market.

Dow Jones rose 399.28 points, or 1.58 per cent, to 25,709.27 points, driven mostly by Boeing and 3M shares.

S&P 500 gained 32.3 points, or 1.18 per cent, to 2,779.6 points due to the good performance of technology, industrial and financial sectors.

In the local market, the biggest gainers that had a positive impact on the indices included Vietnam Airlines Joint Stock Company (6 per cent), Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company 3 per cent) and KIDO Group (3.63 per cent).

The afternoon trading session starts at 1pm.
