HNX shares advance thanks to HoSE freeze

The HNX Index on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange advanced on Tuesday morning, as investors turned to focus on the northern bourse after the southern market was shut down.

The HNX Index gained 1.93 per cent to end at 126.27 points, boosted by investors switching to transact more on the northern bourse.

The northern market index rose 1.22 per cent on Monday.

Meanwhile, the benchmark VN Index saw no change as the HCM Stock Exchange was switched off for maintenance today, following its crash during the At-the-Closing (ATC) period on Monday.

The southern stock exchange experienced a technical crash at 2.31pm on Monday, bringing to a halt all trading activities. It is expected to return to normalcy on Wednesday.

Nearly 55.2 million shares were traded on the northern exchanges, worth VND866 billion (US$38 million).

Gaining stocks outnumbered declining ones by 98 to 78, while 204 other stocks ended flat.

Among the best gainers on the HNX were Asia Commercial Bank (ACB), Southern Gas Trading Joint Stock Company (PGS), PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PVS) and Drilling Mud Joint Stock Corporation (PVC).

The afternoon trade session starts at 1pm.
