VN shares up slightly on financial, energy stocks

Shares advanced slightly on the two local markets on Monday morning, lifted by financial and energy stocks.

 

The benchmark VN Index on the HCM Stock Exchange rose 0.25 per cent to close at 954.69 points. It gained 1.83 per cent in total last week.

The HNX Index on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange inched up 0.04 per cent to end at 113.08 points, adding to its last week growth of 1.28 per cent.

More than 126.3 million shares were traded on both the local bourses, worth VND2.64 trillion (US$117.26 million).

Financial-banking and energy sectors boosted the stock market on Monday morning. Insurance and brokerage sector indices gained 1.6 per cent and 0.6 per cent on the back of insurer Bao Viet Holdings (BVH), BIDV Securities (BSI), VNDirect Securities (VND) and Sai Gon-Ha Noi Securities (SHS).

The energy sector made the biggest contribution to the market’s growth with positive performance of PetroVietnam Gas (GAS), PetroVietnam Technical Services (PVS) and PetroVietnam Coating (PVB).

Large-cap stocks also had a good morning session, as the VN30 Index that tracks the 30 largest companies by market capitalisation gained 0.13 per cent to 947.15 points.

Among the large-cap stocks, brewer Sabeco (SAB) jumped 3.7 per cent and Coteccons Construction Corp (CTD) was up 2.2 per cent.
