VN-Index sets 801-point landmark again

Bank stocks lost momentum, but the VN-Index still maintained its upward trend, ending the Wednesday morning session up 0.22 per cent at 801.66 points.

Only one of the seven listed banks on the HCM Stock Exchange gained value, two declined and four were flat. The gainer was Eximbank (EIB), while the losers were two of the Big Four – Vietinbank (CTG) and BIDV (BID).

However, the overall market condition remained positive, with 128 stocks rising, 106 falling and 109 ending unchanged.

Of the 30 largest shares by market value and liquidity, 12 advanced and 10 slumped.

Large-cap stocks that supported the market included PV Gas (GAS), Saigon Securities Inc (SSI), steelmakers Hoa Phat Group (HPG) and Hoa Sen Group (HSG), IT giant FPT Corp (FPT) and Mobile World Group (MWG).

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index was also up 0.5 per cent at 104.24 points.

Liquidity remained modest, with a total of 99 million shares, worth nearly VND2.3 trillion (US$101.3 million), being traded in the two markets.

The afternoon trade session starts at 1pm.
