VN has 341 industrial parks, coastal economic zones

Viet Nam had 325 industrial parks (IPs) and 16 coastal economic zones (EZ) by the end of June, according to a new report from the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

Of the IPs, which cover 94,900 hectares (ha) of land, 220 are under operation while 105 remainders are under stage of site clearance and infrastructure construction. The occupancy rate of the operational IPs is 73 per cent.

In the EZs, which cover 815,000ha of land and sea zones, there are 36 IPs and duty-free zones.

The report also revealed that the IPs and EZs have attracted 473 foreign invested projects with total registered capital of nearly US$7.3 billion, 385 Vietnamese projects worth VND114 trillion ($5 billion) of registered capital.

Some notable projects registered to invest in the zones in the first half of this year are the $220 million Kolon Industries Inc. automobile tire cord production plant in the Binh Duong province’s Bau Bang Expanded Industrial Park, the VND60 trillion Hoa Phat steel production plant in the Quang Ngai province’s Dung Quat Industrial Park and the $2.5 billion Samsung expansion project in the Bac Ninh province’s Yen Phong Industrial Park.
