Savan Logistics to attract more foreign investors

Savan Logistics based in the Special Economic Zone or Savan Park (SEZ) is confident that more world-leading car manufacturers from France and other countries will consider Laos as an investment destination in the years to come.

This follows the results of a meeting recently organised by Business France which acts to link French businesses with further investment in Laos and Cambodia.

The meeting drew French companies' attention to business operations at the park and the potential for investment projects.

Chief Executive Officer at Savan Logistics Co., Ltd Mr Jean Pierre Grzelczyk told Vientiane Times this week that many large French companies are interested in visiting the park after the recent bilateral meeting in Paris, France.

Many automotive makers whose manufacturing factories are already in Asia including China and Thailand are interested about what is going on in Laos, especially at the SEZ, he said.

Mr Grzelczyk also said that Savan Park already housed a number of world-leading companies from Asia and Europe; the majority of these were electronic component makers.

The reason is that production of electric devices does not need highly skilled labour but they need an intensive training course, and then they can be ready for their workhe said.

I explained to the companies not to worry about manpower. A company may just have to build a training centre and they can work properly.

With his 17 years experience of doing business in Laos, Mr Grzelczyk, is now working hard to attract more French companies to invest in Laos, especially at Savan Park.

He explained that Laos is already connected with other countries in the region, while land transport of cargo is much quicker than marine services.

Currently a total of seven countries are already connected to the Savan Logistics Park; it is the first dry port in Laos providing transportation and customs clearance to more than 50 companies.

The company also hopes it will be able to provide a full logistics service after the meeting with the relevant government sectors this month.

Based in Savan Park, Savannakhet, the Savan Logistics Co., Ltd is an experienced international operator, with particular expertise in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar and China.

Savan Logistics has chalked up impressive milestones since building the business from scratch in land-locked Laos.

Now it has become a leading world-class logistics provider and a model project for the Lao government with networks and connections across the region and worldwide.

According to Mr Grzelczyk, the Lao government plans to build a total of nine dry ports or logistics parks across Laos but is still waiting for investors.

Many companies are interested in building logistics parks but the lack of experience is a challenging issue for them, he added.
