Laos promotes business investment at Asean-EU meeting
A Lao delegation last week explained the reasons why companies should do business in Laos, at the 5th Asean-EU Business Summit held in Manila, the Philippines.
Delegates from the hydropower, coffee, textile, handicraft and tourism sectors attended the meeting to talk about doing business in Laos and broaden the understanding of meeting participants, who came from the Asean region and European businesses.
A representative of the hydropower and mines sector under the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Dr Akhomdeth Vongsay, told Vientiane Times via social media that it was very important to encourage more comp anies to do business in Laos.
He said the Lao participants presented the facts about and reasons for doing business in Laos, with a focus on hydropower, coffee, textiles, handicrafts and tourism. �As far as I'm concerned, tourism seems to be the most attractive proposition among meeting participants.�
The 5th Asean-EU Business Summit is designed as a platform for business leaders, thought-leaders, and policy makers to interact and debate key Asean specific business and trade issues .
It is also a place for tailored B2B or Business-to-Business networking and meetings with entrepreneurs from Asean and the EU.
With 2017 marking the 50thanniversary of Asean and the 40thanniversary of official EU-Asean relations and dialogues, this becomes a strategically important year.
�The 5thAsean-EU Business Summit serves as an excellent platform to present Laos as an emerging business and investment destination in Asean and to follow up business contacts garnered during the Asean Business & Investment Summit 2016,� Dr Akhomdeth said.
Laos has 12 participants at the 5th Asean-EU Business Summit, which is held back to back with the Asean ministers meeting on economics.
